About

Using technology to solve problems is my life.  As soon as I could walk I was always toddling behind the big console TV trying to figure out how it worked.  Growing up in the Silicon Valley I got my first Apple II in 4th grade and have been on computers ever since.  I love how technology, when used correctly, can simplify, enhance, and excite our lives.

In my career I have worked with streaming services, retailers, financial companies, governments, and non-profits to design, code, implement, and manage technology projects ranging from enterprise-wide systems to quick single-user utilities.  I am a firm believer that there is no “one right technology” but that the elegant solution is the one that matches the user and the problem.

I currently work from my home in Camas, Washington as a Senior Software Developer for Disney Streaming Services, developing apps for browser-based devices like Smart TVs and Cable Set-top Boxes. If you’re watching Disney+ on a Samsung, LG, or Vizio TV, you’re probably looking at some of our work.

I have worked with all sorts of technologies.  My day job is focused on performant JavaScript code in the browser with a React stack. But I’ve work with tons of different technologies over years. My previous job I was the Vice President of Technology and Chief Architect, building full-stack solutions using Angular, ASP.NET, SQL Server, Azure services, and AWS. Before that I’ve worked in with Microsoft, Unix and Linux operating systems, developed in Visual Basic, Java, PowerBuilder, Delphi, COBOL, and other scripting languages, and I’ve managed and coded for Oracle and MySQL databases.

I’ve always tried to keep a balance between my hands-on IT skills and my ability to understand the business it supports.  I graduated in 1998 from Brigham Young University with a Masters Degree in Accounting with an Information Systems emphasis.  I’ve spent a significant portion of my career managing projects and doing analysis/design work.  I earned a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.  And I’m not to shabby when it comes to product management and UX design.

At home, I’m a family man.  My four kids keep me busy and young. They love theater so I spend a lot of time helping build sets, filming productions, and giving standing ovations. I love outdoor grilling and hiking and camping.  I like to relax by watching my favorite shows with my wife and I’ve never met an ice cream I didn’t like.  I am active in my local church congregation and volunteer much of my free time there.

That’s me in a nutshell.  You can learn more from my LinkedIn profile or feel free to follow me on Twitter!
